Uganda - Fourth week

I have been in Uganda more than 1 month. A lot of amazing things have happened. I have visited so many wonderful people and saw a lot of interesting places. I have seen so many different communities and observed their way of income.

Last week was quite intensive. Me and my tandem partner from GLEN visited other GLENnies, who are staying near to Kiwangala, Uganda. We spent 2 days with them. We explored the garden of the organisation, where they are volunteering. We got a brief overview about the work they have done there. We saw different plants and observed their planting system. They had many different fruit trees and vegetable plants there. For example, they had really delicious avocados there.

I personally liked their office very much. They had really educational and clear posters about agroforestry.

At the evening we had a really nice bonfire. We heard so many interesting stories from local people about Uganda.

On the second day, we visited a holy stone - called Wajinja. It was about 10 km away from Kiwangala. We went there by boda boda, because there is no bus connection from Kiwangala to this holy stone.

I had really unique opportunity to join the local wedding and even be a pride maid there.

Wedding had 2 part. In the first day, there was an introduction and in the second day, there was the wedding day.

Introduction is an engagement party, where the family of the bride and the family of the groom meet and formally agree to their future marriage. This part took place in pride`s home.

Wedding took place in the church of Seventh-day Adventist. Pride and groom signed the marriage contract also in the church. After official part, there was a wedding party in groom´s home.

Around 300 relatives and friends of the family took part of this wedding.

Wedding celebrations took place in Rakai district, Uganda. I was invited, because of my colleague`s sister got married.
