Uganda - Ninth week

Trainer Kairi

On our ninth week, we had many practical activities. We had a practical training course in Buwunga. We talked about the importance of organic farming/agriculture. We advised local farmers about organic pesticides. We applied organic chicken manure as a natural fertilizer to pineapple field. Also, we planted papaya trees around the pineapple field with local farmers.

This is really interesting pineapple field. Left field is organic and right one is not. Between these two different pineapple fields there is only a narrow road, which separates one from the other.

We organized a training course for local farmers in Rakai district about organic agriculture, compost making, organic pesticides and kitchen garden.
First part was theoretical. We explained, how different organic pesticides are working and talked about methods to keep pests away from crops/plants.
Second part was practical. We created a small kitchen garden with local community. Also, our host farmer applied neem oil to his orange trees.

The day after the training course we participated a local wedding. We had a great honour to be bridesmaids again. We were wearing a really fancy red dress, shoes and jewelry.
It was a wonderful day and the wedding was successful. We faced some challenges with electricity, but at the end, this was no problem at all.
In Uganda, we do not have problems, just challenges!

Bridesmaids
We had a great time in church. There was unforgettable concert and wedding ceremony. We really enjoyed this part of the wedding so much. Wedding in Uganda  is not just event for you family and relatives. This is the great day for all their community.
The last part of the wedding was really great. Then the groom and the bride received many gifts from their family, friends, relatives and community. There was also a concert and a show/performance (local dance). Bridesmaids with stewards distributed wedding cake to guests. The cake was of course delicious.
